Wood powers the future?

April 9, 2013

Interesting piece in The Economist shows that Europe is meeting its renewable energy goals by relying on the stone age fuel of choice, wood (although they like to call it by the sexier, modern name”biomass”).   Changing the name is only part of the story – they play with definitions and rig the CO2 accounting ledgers to make it all seem benign and clean, but it isn’t.  It is dirty and expensive.   And, like corn ethanol in the US, it is driving up prices and harming other industries that also rely on the same raw material.
