Commercialization of oil shale technology nearAugust 17, 2012
The Canadian firm Questerre has signed a deal with oil giant Total and Red Leaf Resources to finally commercialize Red Leaf’s revolutionary EcoShale process for the in situ processing of kerogen. The EcoShale process has demonstrated the ability to turn kerogen (oil shale) into crude oil economically, efficiently, and without using vast amounts of water nor producing large amounts of CO2. However, Red Leaf has been frustrated in its efforts to demonstrate the process at scale, an important hurdle. Questerre will try to build a demonstrate on its Canadian properties by 2014.
