Advances in algae based biodiesel

Via PhysOrg:  Researchers find high energy output from algae based fuel.

EGP is high on algae because it can be grown on land unsuitable for crops, therefore it doesn’t (necessarily) put pressure on food prices.  However, as the linked article notes, the algae fuel processes still require a too-large energy input, and they use a lot of water.  The former will come down as production techniques mature; the latter could be a deal breaker, as in the end, fresh water could become a more valuable commodity than energy.
