Carbon Capture and Utilization

August 4, 2011

From the earliest days of this blog, EGP has supported efforts at carbon capture and sequestration as a means of dealing with the world’s twin problems of energy and climate (see here, here and here for other examples).  CCS, however, is expensive and not always when a suitable sequestration site is not readily available.  In such cases, the captured carbon must be transported over long distances, increasing the cost of the process.  Enter CCU – carbon capture and utilization.  Through various processes, captured carbon is not sequestered away, but is re-purposed and transformed to create chemicals, materials and even energy.
