EERC produces high quality jet fuel from coal + biomass

June 8, 2011

Following up on earlier efforts that produce military grade JP-8 from a mix of half liquefied coal and a 100% renewable mix of crop oils and waste greases, the Energy& Environmental Research Center at the University of North Dakota has announced that they have created another high quality jet fuel that combines the two approaches – CTL with biomass.  The US military is the world’s largest single consumer of petroleum, and the US Air Force is the single largest consumer within the military.  If we can replace a significant portion of US military fuel use with an efficient domestically produced source, it should put significant downward pressure on petroleum prices globally.
