China’s biofuels deals

Sinopec and COFCO struck a deal with Danish firm Novozymes to create ethanol from agricultural waste.  It is hoped that up to 10% of China’s annual oil consumption could be replaced in this manner by the end of the decade.

On the same day, a consortium of Chinese and American companies announced an agreement to create biofuels for China’s aviation sector.  PetroChina and Boeing are the lead companies in this effort, but AirChina, Honeywell UOP, United Technologies, and AECOM will also participate.
