If the new priority is jobs, then drill baby drill!

August 2, 2011

Turning from the debt ceiling debate, Democrats are declaring a new, relentless focus on jobs.  Well, if jobs really are the priority, then nat gas fracking has to be part of the conversation.  The fortune beneath our feet that is the vast shale gas resource is providing an economic lift to the once forlorn rust belt states of Pennsylvania and Ohio.  It can happen all over the nation (see map).  Those first order jobs would create second order jobs, and so on.  The lessening of energy costs would add more jobs.  The revenues to local, state and federal governments from leases, royalties and taxes would be boon to economies both regional and national.  There is at least 750 trillion cubic feet of gas out there available to energize the country both literally and figuratively.   Call your representatives – Congressional, state and local – and demand movement if you live in region that harbors a gas resource.
